Visa

Hungary is part of the Schengen Area. Most guests won't need a visa, but we've put together a clear guide for those who do.

Do I need a visa?

No visa needed

EU / EEA / Switzerland

A valid ID card or passport is enough. No registration required for short stays.

Visa-free (90 days)

Bosnia & Herzegovina, UK, US

Visa-free for tourism up to 90 days within any 180-day period.

Schengen visa needed

Mongolia & many others

A short-stay (Type C) Schengen visa is required. Apply at least 4–6 weeks before travel.

How to apply for a Schengen visa

The process is straightforward - start early to leave room for appointments.

  1. Book an appointment

    Apply at the Hungarian embassy/consulate or an authorised visa centre (e.g. VFS) in your country.

  2. Prepare your documents

    Passport, application form, photo, travel insurance, flight + accommodation bookings, and our invitation letter.

  3. Attend the interview

    Submit biometrics and pay the fee (~80 €). Bring originals plus copies of all documents.

  4. Receive your decision

    Processing typically takes 15 calendar days. Plan to apply 6–8 weeks before travel.
